Curing Carcinophobia With Hypnosis

by Alan Densky

The fear of cancer is among the top ten most familiar phobias, and it is easy to imagine why. Nobody wishes to have cancer or see someone they love suffering from it. Although it is normal to dread getting ill, people with cancer phobia have an extremely high amount of fear that sometimes rules their lives. Beating the fear of cancer used to take a long time, but with more knowledge of the condition and improved treatments, this is no longer the case. Proven hypnotherapy techniques can help people regain their well-being and happiness.

It's not hard to imagine what can cause a fear of cancer. This phobia is associated with a fear of death, illness, and loss of control. Very often, people feel traumatized by a loved one's struggle with cancer. People who have lost a family member to cancer, or face the threat of cancer, live in fear of the moment when they develop cancer.

The uncontrollable anxiety brought on by the fear of cancer may lead people to make extreme life decisions. Some sufferers frequently go to doctors to make sure they aren't ill, while others avoid doctor visits completely, afraid of discovering that they have a disease. Phobia sufferers will feel depressed if they experience the tiniest signs of poor health, such as a headache, and wonder if it is a sign of cancer. People will often go to great lengths to avoid becoming sick.

People with carcinophobia often believe they have much to be afraid of. It's a persistent fear that can strike both men and women. A person might think, "Who will care for my family if I get cancer?" or agonize over other important matters. The phobia may be unbearable for sufferers and their loved ones.

Some people can cope with their fears by avoiding the source of their anxiety. People with arachnophobia can often get along by staying away from spiders, and claustrophobic people take care to avoid small, enclosed spaces such as crowded rooms. The fear of cancer, however, is different. The fear is triggered by an individual's innermost ideas and anxieties. It can be devastating for an individual to suffer from a fear they simply cannot avoid. This leaves many people with the phobia in a constant state of worry.

Many different phobia treatments are in existence today. Frequently used ones include therapy and medication. Talk therapy can generate good results, but it often takes a long time, up to several months for some people. Prescription drugs work to reduce an individual's anxiety, but it fails to fix the root causes of a deep-rooted fear. Hypnotherapy is a choice that produces lasting results in less time than other forms of treatment. Hypnotherapy is now a leading treatment because it is an effective, safe, and non-invasive treatment.

Hypnosis combines stress-relief techniques with fear dissociation to quickly eliminate a phobia. A well-designed program will start with stress-relief therapy to help relieve the emotional distress caused by fear. Once a person feels calm and relaxed, hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques will guide the unconscious mind into adopting a phobia-free thought process.

Traditional hypnosis uses direct, post-hypnotic suggestions to eliminate a fear. It's highly effective when a person is open to it. The problem is, these older techniques may not work because most people tend to question direct suggestions and unconsciously reject direct commands.

A severe phobia such as cancer phobia requires a more sophisticated type of treatment such as Ericksonian hypnosis. This type of hypnosis works best for those who are logical, and who are suffering from chronic anxiety and fear. It uses indirect suggestions embedded in metaphors, conversations, and stories to help them overcome their phobias.

NLP technology doesn't rely upon suggestion at all, so it can be effective for anyone. In simple terms, NLP offers strategies to train the unconscious mind to use the same exact thought patterns that are creating a symptom or problem, to eliminate it.

Since both hypnosis and NLP function at the unconscious level of the mind, clients describe feeling more empowered and secure through these techniques.

With Traditional Hypnosis, programs usually must be specific to each phobia. One benefit of a well designed Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP program is that they are designed to be used on any phobia, or even a number of phobias. This can be a great advantage to some cancer phobia sufferers who also suffer from other panic disorders, such as general germophobia or hypochondria.

Carcinophobia is a significant phobia, but one that can be eliminated by well designed hypnosis techniques. NLP techniques are a leading fear treatment because of their effectiveness at addressing the underlying cause of all fears along with the symptoms. Novel Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP techniques can help even the most severe phobia patients beat their phobias once and for all.
